Karen Selby

Karen Selby is the director of MEC Jail Ministries. She was born in St. Paul and has lived in 10 cities. She has lived in Wyoming, MN for a number of years and says it has been settling and stretching. She says, "I am a grateful wife of Saul, mother of 2 adult children, Christine & Dan and our dog Tuxedo's person. We go to Lakes Free Church in Lindstrom and the Jail Ministry is another 'child.'

Missionary Evangelism to Corrections (MEC) was something we started volunteering with in the early 80's.

When Saul was asked to take it over, he said yes, until I find someone else.

We started answering phone calls and fulfilling what needs we could. 40 years later here we are. We:

  • Train in place and support volunteers who go into corrections and related settings, mostly county jails.
  • Share the love of Christ by doing Church, Bible Studies, Christian Recovery and outreach classes.
  • We attempt for all inmates to have a Bible they can keep, give out Our Daily Breads and 12 Seed Relationship Books.
  • At Christmas we do Christmas Cards and in January a Coat drive with a note and Christian helps in the pockets.
  • Youth who come to services and want it receive a faith packet. If they fill out a form we send a letter, resources for church's in their area, Celebrate Recovery and youth originations.
  • Newsletter & Prayer Letter

We are always looking for those willing to pray, pray, pray!!!  The field is dark and the inmates hungry for God and His word.

They have lost a lot and need to be found by Him. The need for the Light & the Bread are strong, even if they do not know that is what they need to see or what they hunger for. "
